The Egbert Van Alstyne
Memorial Concert

8 p.m. Friday, June 26

Mostly forgotten for many years, the music of the once famous composer, Egbert Van Alstyne, is featured in on the finest stage in the county of his birth. Each act on the program will perform at least one of his compositions, presenting many songs and instrumentals which are heard for the first time in 70 to 90 years.

Some of the top performers of ragtime today have been gathered to honor this fine composer who gave us far more than the few ballads for which he is best remembered.

In addition to the individual performers and ensembles, the show culminates with several special group arrangements of Van Alstyne's music, including "In The Shade of the Old Apple Tree," "Memories" and "Sailin' Away on the Henry Clay."

A Tribute to Chicago Ragtime

8 p.m. Saturday, June 27

As this is the first ragtime festival ever held in the Chicago area, it is only fitting that the music of this most important city be featured. Egbert Van Alstyne spent most of his career in Chicago, and many other musicians either were born, educated, or lived in Chicago. For the first time ever, the importance of Chicago and its musicians is recognized.

This concert showcases much of the finest ragtime written or published in Chicago. Several special arrangements are presented for the first time here, including a piano duet of "Knock Out Drops" with instrumental accompaniment, and a vocal ensemble of that ragtime anthem, "Chicago."
